Serbian Patriarch Received Cypriot President

Belgrade-Serbia: His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Porfirije received President Nikos Christodoulides of the Republic of Cyprus, at the Patriarchal Palace in Belgrade on 23 November 2023.

The two leaders discussed a wide range of issues, including the friendship between the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Church of Cyprus, the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, and the shared historical experiences of the two peoples.

Patriarch Porfirije expressed his appreciation for Cyprus’ support for Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. He also briefed Mr. Christodoulidis on the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, where the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Serbian people continue to face challenges.

President Christodoulides expressed his solidarity with the Serbian people and reaffirmed Cyprus’ support for Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. He also said that he was impressed by the work of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo and Metohija.

The meeting was also attended by Mr. Konstantinos Letimbiotis, spokesman for the Government of the Republic of Cyprus; Mr. Andreas Fotiu, Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus in Belgrade; Mr. Doros Venezis and Ms Melanti Lukadu from the Office for Diplomacy at the President’s Cabinet, as well as Archpriest Đorđe Stojisavljević, head of the Serbian Patriarch’s Cabinet.
