Finnish Orthodox Church Prays for Peace in the Holy Land

Helsinki – Finland: Archbishop Leo of Helsinki and all of Finland have reached out to Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem with a heartfelt letter, expressing the shock and concern of the church people in Finland in response to the tragic events in Gaza on 26 October 2023.
The ongoing conflict in the Holy Land has deeply affected the souls of Christians around the world. Archbishop Leo’s letter reflects on the significance of the Holy City and its pilgrimage sites, where he has personally witnessed Patriarch Teofilo’s boundless hospitality and love over the years. The archbishop fondly remembers visiting places touched by the Lord Himself, from the cave of Bethlehem to Golgotha and the Mount of Olives, where the resurrected Lord ascended to heaven. These experiences profoundly impact both the pilgrims who visit the Holy Land and those who hear and read about it.
Archbishop Leo particularly laments the recent tragic explosion in the old quarter of Gaza, near the Church of St. Porphyrios, which resulted in numerous casualties and extensive damage. He expresses his deep sadness at these distressing events.
In closing, Archbishop Leo assures Patriarch Teofilo and the people of the Holy Land that the Finnish Orthodox Church will wholeheartedly pray for peace.
