Warsaw-Poland: At the headquarters of the Copernican Academy in Warsaw, the ceremonial signing of the cooperation agreement between the Christian Academy of Theology in Warsaw (ChAT) and the Copernican Academy (AK) took place on 25 October 2023. The event was attended by His Excellency Archbishop Prof. Ph.D. Jerzy, rector of the Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw, His Excellency Archbishop Abel, Tomasz Rzymkowski, deputy minister and government plenipotentiary for the development and internationalization of education and science, prof. Ph.D. Krzysztof Górski, Secretary General of the Copernican University and Dr. hab. Witold Mazurek, director of the Copernican Academy office.

One of the first joint projects of the above research centers will be joint activities in organizing the celebration of the centenary of the autocephaly of the Orthodox Church in Poland.

As Archbishop Jerzy emphasized during the ceremony, cooperation between the Christian Theological Academy and the Copernican Academy will bring mutual benefits. The hierarch pointed out that the university, established on the basis of the Department of Evangelical Theology and the Study of Orthodox Theology at the University of Warsaw, is a unique university center that educates followers of Orthodoxy, Old Catholicism, and Lutheranism. “It is important and difficult to maintain the objectivity of assessing theological issues despite confessional differences.” His Excellency emphasized that ChAT, with its achievements and diversity, will contribute a lot to this cooperation.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister Tomasz Rzymkowski emphasized that signing the cooperation agreement shows that Polish science does not exclude anyone. The Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw is a university that approaches issues of faith and theology with respect and understanding. The deputy head of the Ministry of Education emphasized that AK, due to the spectrum of its interests, refers to the ecumenical approach of ChAT, which is a university rated very highly by the Ministry of Education and Science. “It’s good that Polish universities want to cooperate with the Copernican Academy. This benefits both parties to such an agreement,” pointed out Tomasz Rzymkowski.

The Copernican Academy is a new institution in the Polish science system, consisting of half of Polish and the other half of foreign scientists. It is the main center for the implementation of the National Copernican Program. The Academy is based on five pillars, corresponding to the areas of achievements of Nicolaus Copernicus, which became the basis for the organization of the Chambers of the Academy. These are astronomy, economics, law, medicine, theology, and philosophy.
