DECR Chairman Participates in Tenth Anniversary Celebration of Holy Transfiguration Armenian Orthodox Cathedral in Moscow

Moscow – Russia: A Russian delegation, under the leadership of the Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, participated in the 10th-anniversary celebration of the consecration of the Holy Transfiguration Armenian Orthodox Cathedral in Moscow on September 17, 2023.

The delegation comprised Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, who serves as the Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Leonid of Klin, who holds the position of Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, and also administers the Yerevan-Armenian Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, and Archimandrite Filaret (Bulekov), who serves as the Deputy Chairman of the DECR.

According to the statement released by the department:

Metropolitan Anthony extended heartfelt congratulations to those gathered at this historic event on behalf of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’. He reminded attendees that exactly ten years ago on this very day, both Patriarch Kirill and the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II were present at the opening ceremony of the temple complex. In his speech, the DECR Chairman emphasized the exceptional nature of the longstanding fraternal relations between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Armenian Apostolic Church, as well as the deep connection between the Christian peoples of Armenia and Russia. He underlined that one of the prominent symbols of this enduring relationship is the Armenian temple complex situated in the heart of the Russian capital.
