Serbian Patriarch Porfirije Meets with National Security and Defense Leaders

Belgrade-Serbia: His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Porfirije received participants from the Thirteenth Class of the Higher Studies in Security and Defense program at the School of National Defense “Duke Radomir Putnik” on June 10, 2024, at the Patriarchal Palace in Belgrade.

Colonel Vangel Milkovski, head of the School, introduced the Patriarch to the educational system focused on national security and expressed a desire for collaboration with the Serbian Orthodox Church. He also presented a plaque from the School to Patriarch Porfirije.

The reception included a conversation with distinguished guests, including:

  • Faculty: Lieutenant Colonel Dejan Petrović, teacher at the School of National Defense.
  • Participants: Ninoslav Erić (Member of Parliament), Tomislav Janković (Member of Parliament), Nevena Stojanović (advisor to the President of the National Assembly), Žarko Mićin (head of the Cabinet of the Prime Minister), Igor Peško (advisor to the Prime Minister), Nikola Banjac (advisor to the Prime Minister), Sanja Lakić (State Secretary in the Ministry of Family Care and Demography), Marko Mišić (member of the Security and Information Agency), Branislav Pavlović (member of the Security and Information Agency).
  • Military Leaders: Brigadier General Milan Lazić (Head of the Military Police Directorate), Brigadier General Nenad Zonić (Commander of the 63rd Parachute Brigade), Brigadier General Siniša Stašević (Commander of the 2nd Army Brigade), Brigadier General Milan Elenkov (Commander of the 204th Aviation Brigade), Colonel Aleksandar Miloradović (advisor for study and analytical affairs in the Ministry of Defense).
  • International Representatives: Lt. Col. Zoltan Kovač (head of the Geoinformatics Department of the Hungarian Ministry of Defense), Brigadier Siniša Anteljević (inspector in the Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina), Brigadier Zoran Spasenović (Head of the Department for Counterintelligence and Security Affairs of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina), Igor Kušić (Deputy Chief of the East Sarajevo Police Department), Goran Selak (advisor to the director of the Banja Luka Penitentiary).
  • Serbian Orthodox Church: Archpriest Đorđe Stojisavljević (head of the Cabinet of the Serbian Patriarch).

This meeting signifies a potential strengthening of ties between the Serbian Orthodox Church and national security institutions in Serbia.
