Russian Orthodox Church Recognizes the Autocephaly of the Macedonian Orthodox Church – Ohrid Archbishopric

Moscow-Russia: The Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church officially recognized the Autocephaly of the Macedonian Orthodox Church – Archbishopric of Ohrid on 25th August 2022 in the regular session of the synod at the Danilov Stauropegial Monastery in Moscow. The synod was chaired by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill.

The members of the synod thanked God for the restoration of communion between the Serbian Patriarchate and the Macedonian Orthodox Church, the Archdiocese of Ohrid. The Holy Synod expressed hope that as the youngest in the family of autocephalous Orthodox Churches, the Macedonian Orthodox Church would firmly preserve the holy Orthodox faith in purity, integrity and observe faithfulness to the Orthodox canonical tradition and decided to notify Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia and Archbishop Stephan of Macedonia regarding the decision of the Holy Synod. 

Patriarch Porifirije of Serbia Presented the Tomos of Autocephaly to the Macedonian Orthodox Church – Ohrid Archbishopric

The Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church unanimously recognized the Autocephaly of the Macedonian Orthodox Church on June 2022. Later Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople and Bulgarian Orthodox Church also accepted the autocephaly of the Macedonian church.

The Serbian Orthodox Church has recognized the canonical status of the Macedonian Orthodox Church
