Minsk-Belarus: President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus donated the icons of St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk and the Holy Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky to the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Khatyn.

As reported on the official website of the Belarusian Orthodox Church, the temple on the memorial complex’s grounds was consecrated in March of this year, marking the 80th anniversary of the Khatyn tragedy. It was constructed following an 18th-century church model, which once stood in the same location but was destroyed during the Great Patriotic War.

The head of state instructed the restoration of the temple based on existing archival records, which was successfully accomplished within 10 months. The description of the temple mentioned icons of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Nicholas, with the latter having a dedicated consecrated throne. Additionally, numerous other icons adorned the church, among them highly venerated images of the holy noble prince Alexander Nevsky and the Venerable Euphrosyne, the patron saint of the Belarusian land, as explained by the temple’s rector, Archpriest Pavel Yatsukovich.

During his visit to the Khatyn temple in March of this year, the Head of State pledged to donate several icons.
