President Joe Biden Received Patriarch Theodoros of Alexandria

Washington DC – USA: His Beatitude Patriarch Theodoros of Alexandria, who is on his Patriarchal visit to the United States was received by President Joe Biden on October 11, 2022, at the White House.

HE Archbishop Elpidophoros of America accompanied Patriarch on his visit to the White House. At the auspicious occasion, President Joe Biden was decorated with the Grand Cross (Μegalostavros) of the Apostle Mark for his support to the Patriarchate of Alexandria, Greece, and Cyprus.

According to the official press release, in the conversation with the Counselor to President Biden (Steven J. Ricchetti), “His Beatitude briefed on the Patriarchate’s work in Africa, as well as the concerning developments in the Moscow Patriarchate’s uncanonical intrusion into the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the Alexandrian Patriarchate”.

Speaking to the press afterward, Patriarch Theodoros expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to meet with President Biden on his first Apostolic Visit to the United States, calling him “a man of faith.” “I had the opportunity to discuss not only the invasion of Ukraine but the ‘invasion’ by another Church of my own Patriarchate”.

Later, Patriarch Theodoros visited the State Department, where he met with Ambassador for International Religious Freedom Rashad Hussain.
