Tbilisi -Georgia: On December 25th, the Georgian Orthodox Church celebrated the 46th anniversary of the enthronement of His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia. The occasion was marked by a special address from Metropolitan Shio (Mujiri) of Senaki and Chkhorotsku (Locum Tenens).

Patriarch Ilia II ascended to the throne on December 25, 1977, following the passing of his predecessor, Patriarch David V. His ascent came amidst a challenging period for the Church, navigating the complexities of life under Soviet rule. Despite the prevailing climate of religious suppression, Ilia II’s leadership proved instrumental in safeguarding and reviving the spiritual fabric of the nation.
