Catholicos Karekin II Received Ambassador of Egypt to Armenia

Yerevan-Armenia: On 24 October 2023, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians received Serenad Muhammad Soliman Gamil, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Republic of Armenia at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

Father Hilarion, minister of the Coptic Orthodox Church, who is continuing his theological education at the Faculty of Theology of Yerevan State University, was also present at the meeting.

His Holiness emphasized that Armenian-Egyptian friendly relations have a centuries-old history, reflecting with appreciation that the Egyptian authorities and people hosted the Armenians who survived the Armenian Genocide, providing an opportunity to reorganize their national-spiritual life. In this regard, the Catholicos of All Armenians referred to the important role of the Armenian community in Egypt in the development of Armenian-Egyptian relations.

At the meeting, His Holiness addressed with concern the challenges faced by our country and our children forcibly displaced from Artsakh and presented the programs implemented by the Mother See aimed at taking care of the needs of Artsakh Armenians.

In his speech, His Holiness also noted with satisfaction that there are warm fraternal relations and close cooperation between the Armenian and Coptic Sister Churches.

In turn, Ambassador Serenad Mohamed Soliman Gamil conveyed to His Holiness the greetings and best wishes of the spiritual head of the Coptic Orthodox Church, Patriarch Tawadros II. The Egyptian ambassador assured His Eminence that he will invest his efforts in further strengthening Armenian-Egyptian relations and cooperation.
