Minsk-Belarus: On January 16, 2024, a round table titled “Spirituality and Culture: Traditions and Modernity,” organized in collaboration with the Belarusian Orthodox Church, unfolded at the National Library of Belarus.

The event gathered participants who exchanged opinions and experiences, delving into various aspects of spirituality and culture. Discussions spanned topics such as the relationship between spirituality and culture, their impact on society, the preservation of national traditions, and modern challenges. Issues related to the role of culture in shaping national identity, the influence of spirituality on societal development, and the preservation of cultural heritage for future generations took center stage.

In his welcoming speech at the round table, Metropolitan Benjamin highlighted the relevance of the theme not only for Belarus but for the entire Christian civilization and humanity. He emphasized that amidst the crises in economics, politics, ecology, and culture, a deeper spiritual crisis underlies these challenges—the loss of value guidelines for human development and the sense of meaning.

Metropolitan Benjamin expressed gratitude to the National Library’s leadership for hosting the first Christmas tree event in the history of the Minsk Metropolis, benefiting large families and clergy. This event fostered joy among the participants and provided children with an opportunity to explore the treasury of knowledge and culture housed within the National Library.

As part of the round table, Metropolitan Benjamin of Minsk and Zaslavl, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, and General Director of the National Library of Belarus Vadim Gigin signed a Cooperation Agreement. The agreement focuses on publishing, educational activities, and spiritual and moral education to strengthen ties, support joint projects, and promote the book, attracting a wide readership to reading. The signing ceremony marked a significant step toward cultural development, moral improvement, spiritual enlightenment, and the enrichment of the human soul.
