Belgrade-Serbia: The Serbian Council of Bishops that was held in Belgrade agreed on the release request that was put by Archbishop Jovan and other Macedonian bishops under the Serbian Patriarchate to join the Canonical Macedonian Orthodox Church – Ochid Archbishopric.
This decision was taken according to the recent decision by the synod of the Macedonian Orthodox Church to receive hierarchs who were part of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
This also led to the final stage of peace between Serbian and Macedonian Orthodox Churches that started with the dialogues which followed the canonical acceptance and granting Tomos of autocephaly.
Press release of the Holy Council of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church says:
“At this year’s session of the Holy Synod of Bishops, special attention was paid to the topic of the final resolution of the canonical status of the archbishops of the Orthodox Ohrid Archdiocese in the light of last year’s decision of the Holy Synod of Bishops to return to canonical status and establish liturgical unity – and the subsequent decision to grant Tomos on autocephaly – to the Macedonian Orthodox Church – Ohrid Archbishopric. To this end, the Parliament made a decision on the granting of canonical release to the hierarchy of this autonomous Church by the Serbian Orthodox Church and its integration into the Synod of the Macedonian Orthodox Church in accordance with the sacred canons and Constitutions of our two local Churches, as well as the previously reached agreement of the Synods of all three church structures”.
