All Charges Against Metropolitan Joanikije on Covid Related Case Discharged

Nikšić -Montenegro: Metropolitan Joanikije of Montenegro and eight priests from Niksic were acquitted of the COVID-related charges of 2020. Metropolitan Joanikije was this involved in the case as the bishop of Budimlye-Niksic, when the police arrested Metropolitan and eight priests for celebrating the feast day of St. Basil of Ostrog, on May 12, 2020.

Metropolitan after the court procedure reflected that “I expected an acquittal because it was clear that we acted the way priests should have acted.” The judge had enough time to see everything and really gave the case maximum attention. “I am happy that he acted seriously and made such a decision based on irrefutable evidence”.
Metropolitan and priests were then arrested for public gatherings during the pandemic, an accusation that they made even before the announcement of the emergency in Montenegro.
