Targeted Killings of Orthodox Christians Continue in Arsi, Oromia, Ethiopia

‘Merigeta’ Nahu-Senay Adam

Addis Ababa- Ethiopia: Four Ethiopian Orthodox Christians were gunned down on Monday, December 18, 2023, after forcefully being taken off from a bus in a locality called Galema in the Shirka District of Arsi Zone (East Arsi Diocese) in the Oromia Regional State of Ethiopia. Witnesses reported that the rest of the passengers were taken as hostages.

Those killed by the gunmen were:
1. ‘Merigeta’ Nahu-Senay Adam, liturgics and hymnology instructor of Shirka Abune Gebre Menfes Qedus Church
2. Deacon Abebe Tsegaye, servant of Tareta Saint Michael Church
3. Mr. Awgechew Moges and
4. Mr. Semere Adefres

Mahibere Kidusan Broadcast Service stated that in Arsi, in the past three months, 48 faithful, including priests, have received martyrdom. Nonetheless, government security forces were not taking any steps to curb the situation.
