DECR – OCP News Service – 19/09/2023
Moscow-Russia: His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia responded to the Resumption of Hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh by Azerbaijan on 19 September 2023.
It was with pain in my heart that I received the news about the resumption of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh, about the first victims of the renewed confrontation.
For decades, the Russian Orthodox Church has been making every possible effort to restore peace in this blessed land, together with the spiritual leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, promoting dialogue between religious communities and the peoples of the two neighboring states.
We managed to achieve a lot and, above all, prevent the conflict from escalating into a religious one.
In these days of a new test, I pray to God that as soon as possible military action will give way to negotiations, and that peace will be established on the land of Nagorno-Karabakh, where all residents, no matter what nationality or religion they belong to, could live in safety and freely practice their lawful the foundations of the faith of their ancestors.
