Serbian Patriarch Porfirije: “We Appeal to Those with the Keys to Peace in the World to Use Them for the Benefit of All People in Kosovo and Metohija”

Belgrade-Serbia: Serbian Patriarch Porfirije delivered a poignant message on October 1, 2023, during a liturgy at the Church of Saint Sava in the presence of children from Gnjilan, Kosovo, and Metohija. The Patriarch emphasized the significance of inner peace as an indicator of one’s faith and called for collective prayers for peace, especially for the people of Kosovo and Metohija.
During his address, Patriarch Porfirije highlighted the essential role of inner serenity and peacefulness in demonstrating the depth of one’s faith. He stressed that where there is a calm and peaceful mind, there will also be peace in one’s surroundings. Given the turbulent history of Kosovo and Metohija, the Patriarch urged everyone to pray for peace in the region and the strength of faith for its inhabitants, who have endured hardship for decades.
The Patriarch underscored the interconnectedness of individuals within a community, drawing parallels between peaceful coexistence in a family and a broader society. He noted that striving for peace and stability in one’s immediate surroundings is integral to achieving personal inner peace.
Patriarch Porfirije called upon the international community, especially those in positions of influence, to work towards lasting peace in Kosovo and Metohija. He urged them to utilize their power effectively to bring peace to the region. He likened the collective prayer for peace to the Canaanite woman’s plea in the Bible, emphasizing the importance of faith, trust, and love in God.
The Patriarch concluded his message by expressing hope that, with God’s grace, a miraculous transformation would occur both within individuals and in the world at large, allowing for the glorification of God.
