Russian Orthodox Church Explores Cooperation Prospects in Malawi

Lilongwe – Malawi: In a significant diplomatic encounter, Metropolitan Constantine of Zaraisk, Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, engaged in discussions with Malawian officials to foster cooperation and support for the Russian Orthodox Church’s activities in the region.
The meeting, held on April 15,2024 at the State Residence in Lilongwe, featured Pastor Brian Kamwendo, the Adviser to the President of Malawi on Religious Affairs, alongside key figures including Natasha Nalikungwi, Secretary General of the Presidential Program for Support of Religious Leaders, and Pastor Edward Tembo of the Nkhoma Synod (Presbyterian Church of Central Africa), among others.
Earlier in the day, Metropolitan Constantine met with Dr. Mwayivavo Polepole, Principal Secretary for International Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malawi, to discuss mutual interests and cooperation.
The Russian Orthodox Church delegation, led by Metropolitan Constantine, highlighted the Exarchate’s ongoing humanitarian and educational initiatives in Africa, underscoring their commitment to community development and interfaith dialogue. Discussions centered on outlining future endeavors for the Exarchate’s mission in Malawi.
Malawian officials expressed positive sentiments toward the presence of the Russian Orthodox Church in the country, emphasizing a welcoming approach to religious diversity and cooperation.
