Patriarch Kirill Expresses Sadness and Outrage Over Serbian Church Leaders Denied Entry into Kosovo

OCP News Service – 21/04/2024
Moscow- Russia: His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow has expressed sadness and outrage over the denial of entry into Kosovo for the Primate of the Serbian Church, Patriarch Porfirije, and several accompanying bishops.

In a letter dated May 17th, Patriarch Kirill condemned the move as a “gesture of hostility” towards the Serbian Orthodox Church and a denial of its historical significance in the region.

The denied entry reportedly prevented the leaders from attending a Bishops’ Council meeting traditionally held at the Peć Patriarchate monastery in Kosovo.

The statement from the DECR also highlights concerns within the Russian Orthodox Church regarding the reported pressure faced by the Serbian population in Kosovo and threats to Serbian Orthodox shrines.

Patriarch Kirill offered prayers and well wishes to Serbian Patriarch Porfirije and the Serbian Church leadership.
