Moscow and Belgrade Strengthen Ties: Metropolitan Anthony Visits Serbian Patriarch Porfirije

Belgrade-Serbia: With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ and at the invitation of His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Porfirije, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, arrived on a working visit to Serbia on March 3, 2024.
At the Belgrade airport, the DECR chairman was met by Bishop Irinej of Bac, Bishop Hesychius of Valjevo, vicar of His Holiness the Patriarch of Serbia, Bishop Stefan of Remezjan, vicar of the Bac diocese, Bishop of Mohac Damascene, and rector of the Metochion of the Russian Orthodox Church in Belgrade, Archpriest Vitaly Tarasiev.
On the trip, Metropolitan Anthony is accompanied by the adviser to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’, Archpriest Nikolai Balashov, and the secretary of the DECR Chairman, Deacon Nikolai Vasin.
On the same day, His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Porfirije received Metropolitan Anthony and his entourage at the Serbian Patriarchate. The aforementioned bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church and senior officials of the Serbian Patriarchate took part in the conversation. Vladyka Anthony conveyed to His Holiness Patriarch Porfiry the fraternal wishes of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’. A discussion took place on issues affecting the sphere of bilateral and inter-Orthodox relations.
