Malankara Orthodox Monastic Delegation Commenced Russian Visit

Moscow- Russia: On 23 November 2023, a monastic delegation from the Malankara Orthodox Church, including Sister Dina and Sister Sheba from Bethlehem Convent, arrived in Moscow for their Russian visit.
The purpose of this visit is to study the monastic experience of the Russian Orthodox Church and explore its potential application in Indian monasteries. The project is being carried out within the framework of the activities of the Working Group on the development of bilateral relations between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Malankara Orthodox Church of India. With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’, the guests will reside for two months at the Holy Vvedensky Tolga Convent of the Yaroslavl Metropolis.
The delegation from the Malankara Orthodox Church also included Father Edward George, who participated in the V International Conference ‘Church Care for the Mentally Ill.’
Upon their arrival in Moscow, the Indian guests visited the Intercession Monastery (Pokrovsky Monastery), where they venerated the relics of the Holy Blessed Matrona of Moscow.
Within the walls of the Intercession Monastery, Hierodeacon Peter (Akhmatkhanov), an employee of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, met with representatives of the Malankara Church. He conveyed greetings on behalf of the DECR Chairman, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk. The guests were also welcomed by the abbess of the Holy Vvedensky Monastery, Abbess Varvara (Tretyak), who shared insights about the Tolga Monastery with the Indian nuns.
