Belgrade – Serbia: On 27 August 2022, the Serbian orthodox church through a press release congratulated the efforts of President Aleksandar Vucic of Serbia for canceling the Euro-pride event. The euro-pride event was scheduled to be held in Belgrade from September 12-18.
Press Release from the Office of Holy Synod of Bishops:
The Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church welcomes the decision of the highest state authorities to cancel the Euro-pride event, which the organizers intended to hold in Belgrade during September, and sincerely congratulates the President of Serbia, Mr. Aleksandar Vučić, and the Government of Serbia on this responsible decision.
The Holy Synod of Bishops is convinced that holding this “parade”, in the service of promoting LGBT ideology, which is trying to impose itself on Europe and the so-called Western world in general, and, unfortunately, on our people, would not be beneficial to anyone, but, on the contrary, would caused additional tensions and new divisions, and among the believers of the Serbian Orthodox Church and all other traditional churches and religious communities in Serbia, indignation and revolt.
And the “LGBT” topic itself, we believe, is out of place, especially in our days, in the days when for us Serbs, in Serbia and everywhere in the world, there is a topic on top of topics, the topic of Kosovo and Metohija. Our state leadership, led by the President of Serbia, uncompromisingly and unyieldingly fights for the preservation of our original southern province within Serbia, for the salvation of our greatest sanctuaries, starting with the Patriarchate of Peć, Visoki Dečani, Gračanica and the Virgin of Ljeviška, and for the survival and survival of the Serbian people on its centuries-old hearths. In that honorable and holy struggle, the state of Serbia enjoys the undivided prayer, moral and patriotic support of the Serbian Orthodox Church. Altogether, in assembly, unanimously, without a “fifth” or “sixth” column among us, we are invited and summoned to be active Orthodox Christians and Serbian patriots, the covenanted people of Saint Sava and Saint Prince Lazar.
