Moscow- Russia: With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’, in consideration of his contribution to the development of friendly relations between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Malankara Orthodox Church and in connection with the 75th anniversary of his birth, the Primate of the Malankara Orthodox Church, His Holiness Catholicos Marthoma Matthew the III, was awarded the order “Glory and Honor” (I degree).

The relationship between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Malankara Church of India has a long history and has been regular since the 19th century. As part of bilateral contacts, theological consultations were held, academic cooperation was realized, and interaction was carried out on international Christian platforms. Churches have traditionally made a significant contribution to strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between the peoples of Russia and India.

A new impetus to bilateral relations was given in 2019, when, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and Late His Holiness Catholicos Marthoma Paulose II, a Working Group was established to coordinate bilateral relations between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Malankara Orthodox Church.

The Order of “Glory and Honour,” referencing a Scripture quotation (Rom. 2.10), was founded in 2004. This singular-class decoration is intended for heads of states and notable public figures, irrespective of religious affiliation. The insignia of this award is designed to maintain a neutral religious appearance: the badge features representations of olive and laurel branches, while the star displays a dove holding an olive branch. These decorations are worn similarly to those of St. Andrew. The riband is blue with silver fringes at the ends.
