OCP News Service – 31/3/22
Yerevan-Armenia: The Church of Armenia objects to the plans by Gagik Tsarukyan (businessman, politician, and former athlete) to construct a statue of Jesus Christ in the country.
The Church stated that the proposed statue of Jesus is not acceptable due to the centuries-old depiction and worship traditions. However, the Church stated that installing a cross-stone (khachkar) is more than welcome.
The Church authorities also urged the group behind the Jesus Statue initiative to refrain from any construction projects that contradict the teachings and traditions of the Armenian Church.
