The Eleventh Enthronement Anniversary of His Holiness Abune Mathias Celebrated in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa- Ethiopia: On March 3, 2024, the 11th anniversary of the enthronement of His Holiness Abune Mathias as Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church took place at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in an event attended by archbishops, religious figures, diplomats, and dignitaries.
During his address at the occasion, His Holiness Abune Mathias referenced Zechariah 1:3, emphasizing the importance of the relationship between God and man. He stated that people should return to their Creator and expressed concern about the present era, describing it as distorted and vulnerable to God’s wrath. Abune Mathias highlighted issues such as lack of respect for God, selfishness, greed, and the negative impact of technology on society.
The Patriarch urged the clergy to play a crucial role in teaching, reprimanding, and counseling the current generation before it was too late. He emphasized the need for fathers to adhere to the teachings of the Gospel and avoid contradicting Holy Writ in their speeches.
His Holiness elaborated on the Ten Commandments and stated that murder or same sex marriages would never be part of the teaching of the Church.
Abune Mathias also called on politicians to refrain from interfering in Church matters for personal gain, stressing the importance of working together on common issues for the greater good. He acknowledged the challenges faced by the Church, including trials and displacement of people, and urged unity and support within the community.
In conclusion, His Holiness expressed concern about the current situation in the country, particularly affecting the Church. He called on the clergy, the faithful, and the government to work together in protecting the Church and ensuring justice and fairness for all.
