The Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia visited the Patriarchate of Georgia

Tbilisi -Georgia: Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia, Paweł Herczyński, visited the Patriarchate of Georgia on October 4, 2023. He was welcomed by Metropolitan Shio (Mujiri) of Senaki and Chkhorotsku, who acted as the Locum Tenens, along with bishops and clergy.
According to the Patriarchate:
Mr. Pavel Herchinskii expressed that Georgia, with its rich culture and history, still holds the Orthodox Church in high regard. Studies show that the Orthodox Church enjoys the highest rating in Georgia and plays a significant role in the lives of the population.
Metropolitan Shio and the senior clergy members expressed their gratitude for the visit and emphasized the importance of considering Georgian traditions and values in the process of closer ties with Europe. They highlighted the significance of upholding traditional family values and protecting Christian principles, as they have consistently advocated.
The EU ambassador noted that European integration doesn’t entail the loss of national identity and spiritual and cultural values. In fact, Europe promotes the harmonious coexistence of different nations. He added that not only will Georgia benefit from European Union membership, but the EU itself will gain a valuable member with a unique culture and values.
The meeting also addressed the challenges faced by people residing near the occupied territories. It was noted with concern that Georgians are restricted from moving to and visiting the occupied areas, even to tend to the graves of their deceased relatives.
Metropolitan Shio and the senior clergy members expressed their appreciation for the EU ambassador’s visit and the engaging conversation, extending their best wishes for his successful endeavors.
