The 620th Anniversary Celebration of Establishment of the Armenian Diocese of Romania Held

Yerevan-Armenia: 620th Foundational Anniversary of the Armenian Diocese of Romania was held in Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin on 11 July 2022. H.H. Karekin the Second Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians lead the Celebrations which were also attended by the Patriarchal Vicar of the Romanian Orthodox Church, Bishop Varlaam Ploieșteanul. The ceremony was also attended by His Excellency Cornel Ionescu, Ambassador of Romania to Armenia.
Catholicos Karekin the Second in his speech noted the cordial Armenian-Romanian friendship between the nations and between the churches. The Patriarch of All Armenians sent his greetings and brotherly love in Christ to Patriarch Daniel of Romania. Bishop Varlaam Ploieșteanul shared inferences from the history of Armenian settlement in Romania, in addition to the deep bond between the churches.
Bishop Datev Hakobyan of Romania underlined the openness and support shown by the Romanian authorities and the Romanian Orthodox Church for the Armenian community in Romania and for the Archdiocese of the Armenian Church in Romania. “Today, the Armenian community in Romania has become small, but in the face of problems and challenges, it continues to remain faithful to our Holy Church, while also contributing to the construction of Romania,” said Bishop Datev Hakobyan.
On Behalf of Patriarch Daniel of Romania, Bishop Varlaam Ploieșteanu also presented ‘The Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle Protector of Romania’ to Catholicose Karekin the Second and ‘The Order of St. John Jacob of Neamț’ to Bishop Datev Hakobyan’ to Bishop Datev Hakobyan of Armenian Church in Romania during the celebrations.
