Thai Princess Visits St. Nicholas Cathedral in Bangkok

Moscow- Russia: On June 11, 2024, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand paid an official visit to St. Nicholas Cathedral in Bangkok. With the blessing of Metropolitan Sergius, the temporary administrator of the Thai diocese, Princess Sirindhorn was greeted by clergy and officials upon arrival. Accompanying her were cadets from the Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Russian Ambassador to Thailand, E.Yu. Tomikhin, military attachés, and representatives from various Thai Orthodox Church parishes. The Princess was met with the singing of the Thai Royal Anthem before entering the cathedral for a prayer service dedicated to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. Chants were sung in both Church Slavonic and Thai by the cathedral choir.

Following the service, prayers for the well-being of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn and the entire Royal House were offered. Archpriest Daniil Danai Vanna, rector of the All Saints Church in Pattaya, delivered a presentation on the role of the Russian Orthodox Church in modern Russia and the current state of Orthodoxy in Thailand.

Princess Sirindhorn then took a tour of the cathedral, where she was introduced to its various shrines. Archimandrite Oleg, on behalf of Metropolitan Sergius and the cathedral clergy, expressed gratitude to the Princess for her visit. He presented her with a collector’s edition of the Bible with illustrations as a gift. The visit concluded with a traditional Russian tea party, offering a warm and cultural ending to the event.
