Serbian Patriarch Porfirije Awarded for Supporting Blind and Partially Sighted People

Belgrade-Serbia: His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Porfirije was presented with the Plaque of the Serbian Blind Union on January 22,2025 in recognition of his unwavering support for the blind and partially sighted community in Serbia.

During a meeting at the Patriarchal Palace, Patriarch Porfirije emphasized the importance of mutual support and love within society, stating, “We are all one body and one organism… where there is understanding and love, everyone performs only the function assigned to them within that body.”

He further emphasized the spiritual significance of sight, highlighting that true sight is an inner, spiritual connection with God.

Mr. Milan Stošić, President of the Serbian Blind Union, expressed gratitude for the Patriarch’s consistent support and the strong partnership between the Church and the Union.

The event was attended by several high-ranking officials from the Serbian Orthodox Church.

This recognition underscores the Serbian Orthodox Church’s commitment to serving the needs of all members of Serbian society, including those with disabilities.
