Belgrade-Serbia: A historic celebration marked the 100th anniversary of the Holy Trinity Russian Church in Belgrade on Sunday. The event was attended by high-ranking clergy from both the Serbian and Russian Orthodox Churches, including Serbian Patriarch Porfirije and Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations.
The day’s festivities included a Divine Liturgy celebrated by Patriarch Porfirije, followed by a sermon highlighting the enduring bond between the two Orthodox Churches. The service was attended by numerous dignitaries, including Serbian government officials and Russian cultural figures.
The Holy Trinity Church, a symbol of the strong ties between Serbia and Russia, was built in the 1920s to serve the needs of the Russian diaspora in Belgrade. Over the past century, it has become a significant spiritual and cultural center for both Russian and Serbian Orthodox Christians.
The church’s recent restoration, led by renowned Russian iconographer Nikolai Mukhin, has returned the building to its former glory. The newly restored frescoes depict biblical scenes and honor both Russian and Serbian saints.
The centennial celebration underscores the historical and spiritual significance of the Holy Trinity Church and its enduring legacy.
