Belgrade-Serbia: On July 22, 2024, His Holiness the Serbian Patriarch Porfirije held a meeting with Mrs. Milica Đurđević Stamenkovski, the Minister of Family Care and Demography, at the Patriarchal Palace in Belgrade to discuss significant initiatives aimed at supporting families in Serbia.
During the conversation, Minister Đurđević Stamenkovski presented detailed plans of the Ministry to promote and enhance the quality of family life, as well as to improve the demographic trends in the Republic of Serbia. A key focus of the meeting was the Ministry’s initiative to amend the Law on Financial Support for Families with Children. This initiative, developed in consultation with the President of Serbia, proposes increasing the financial assistance provided to families. Under the new law, parental allowance would be raised to 500,000 dinars for the first-born child and 600,000 dinars for the second-born child.
His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije praised the proposed amendments, highlighting the fundamental importance of family in society. He emphasized that the family acts as the “domestic Church,” serving as the basic cell of every community.
The reception was also attended by the Most Reverend Metropolitan Nicodemus; Mrs. Sanja Lakić, State Secretary in the Ministry of Family Care and Demography; and Archpriest Đorđe Stojisavljević, head of the Cabinet of the Serbian Patriarch.
