Patriarch of Eritrea Abune Kerlos (Cyril) Laid to Rest

Asmara – Eritrea: Late His Holiness Abune Kerlos (Cyril), Patriarch of the Eritrean Orthodox Church was laid to rest at the Abune Bitsu Amlak Monastery in Godeiti on 08 December 2022. Final rites were held in the Abune Bitsu Amlak Monastery in Godeiti after the funeral ceremony at the Debre-Tsion Saint Mary Church in Asmara.
His Holiness Abune Kerlos (Cyril), Patriarch of the Eritrean Orthodox Church entered eternal rest on November 02, 2022, at 4:15 pm in his Patriarchal residence. Abune Kerlos (Kirollos) was the 5th patriarch of Eritrea from 13 May 2021 (Term Contested).
The funeral service was participated by President Isaias Afwerki and Ministers in addition to the representatives from Coptic Orthodox and Ethiopian Orthodox churches. The Ethiopian delegation was led by Abune Peter (synod secretary of EOTC) and the Coptic Church delegation was led by H.E. Metropolitan Biemen, H.E. Metropolitan Bakhoum and H.E. Metropolitan Tomas.
Condolences letters on the demise of the Abune Kerlos were sent to Asmara by Russian Patriarch Kiril, Coptic Pope, the Antiochian Patriarch, and other Christian leaders.
It has to be seen that the government and the synod denied the official funeral of Abune Antonios in February 2022.
