Kyiv – Ukraine: On March 8, 2024, at the UN Human Rights Council during the “Panel discussion on countering religious hatred, which constitutes incitement to discrimination, enmity or violence”, a video address was heard by Metropolitan Theodosius of Cherkasy and Kaniv. This was reported by the press service of the Cherkasy Diocese , as reported by the Information and Educational Department of the UOC.
The bishop made an official request to the states that are members of the UN, as well as authorized officials, to submit draft law No. 8371 for examination by the Venice Commission.
The UOC hierarch explained to international diplomats that “this will save millions of believers from a gross violation of their rights and prevent the legal ban of the Church.”
The Metropolitan of Cherkasy said that the modern authorities of Ukraine at various levels are forcing traditional believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to transition to a new religious structure.
At the same time, according to him, religious hatred towards the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is being incited, both through aggressive media campaigns and public statements by politicians.
In this regard, Metropolitan Theodosius called on international human rights defenders to react publicly as often as possible and make legal decisions regarding violations of the rights of believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
