Five Bishops Consecrated for Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Church

Yerevan-Armenia: On September 8, 2023, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, presided over the consecration of five new bishops at the St. Trdat Open Altar of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. This significant ceremony saw the consecration of three bishops for the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Church under the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and two bishops for the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem.

The consecration drew the participation of esteemed diocesan leaders from the Armenian Church and representatives from the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem. Benefactors of the Mother See and pilgrims hailing from Armenia, the Armenian Eastern Diocese of the USA, and the Iraqi and Armenian Diocese of Syria also gathered in St. Etchmiadzin to witness and partake in these sacred consecration ceremonies.

The five newly consecrated bishops and their office are as follows:

  1. Bishop Oshakan Gyulgyulyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Iraq
  2. Bishop Theodoros Zakaryan; Chairman of the Assembly of Directors of the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem
  3. Bishop Mesrop Parsamyan, Primate of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America
  4. Bishop Koryun Baghdasaryan, Dean of the manor of the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem
  5. Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Georgia
