Tbilisi -Georgia: Hungarian Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjen visited the Patriarchate of Georgia on July 02, 2023. The delegation was received by the chore-bishop of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Metropolitan Theodore (Chuadze) of Akhaltsakhi and Tao-Klarjeti, head of the foreign department of the Patriarchate of Georgia Gerasime (Sharashenidze), Metropolitan Andria of Gori and Athens (Gvazawa ), rector of Tbilisi theological seminary-academy, Protopresbyter Giorgi Zviadadze and head of Public Relations Service of the Patriarchate of Georgia.

The meeting was attended by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Hungary to Georgia Mrs. Anna Maria Shiko.

According to Patriarchate:

The Vice-Prime Minister of Hungary noted that it is particularly gratifying for him to visit a country with an ancient Christian culture, and it is very important to meet with the hierarchy of the Orthodox Church of Georgia. According to him, Hungary, like Georgia, is a country based on the Christian worldview, the majority of whose population shares Christian values ​​and attaches great importance to the preservation of traditional values.

“In Hungary, we have three main values: God, homeland, and family. Our people are united around these values,” he added.

Mr. Zholt Shemien ordered that Georgia needs Europe and Europe needs Georgia, and the country’s culture and traditions should be protected and preserved. He expressed regret for not granting candidate status to Georgia last year, however, he hopes that Georgia will receive candidate status and expressed his support on behalf of his country and government.

The chief priests gratefully noted the support provided by Hungary to our country and people both within the country and in the international arena. They thanked the guests for their visit, blessed them, and wished them further success.
