Coptic Orthodox Priest Lectures on Nativity Traditions at St. Petersburg Theological Academy

Moscow- Russia: A lecture titled “The Feast of the Nativity of Christ in the Coptic Orthodox Church” was delivered by Coptic Orthodox Priest Vasily Samir at the St. Petersburg Theological Academy on December 12,2024.

The event, which was attended by representatives of various Russian Orthodox theological institutions, aimed to foster inter-church dialogue and cultural exchange.

Father Vasily provided insights into the Coptic Orthodox Church’s unique approach to celebrating the Nativity of Christ, including the 43-day fasting period leading up to the feast. He delved into the specific liturgical practices and prayers associated with this significant holiday.

The lecture highlighted the rich liturgical tradition of the Coptic Orthodox Church, particularly its use of the liturgy of St. Gregory the Theologian on the eve of the Nativity. Father Vasily explained the theological significance of this choice and discussed key liturgical texts associated with the feast.

The event was part of a series of exchanges between the Russian Orthodox and Coptic Orthodox Church, reflecting the growing cooperation between the two traditions.
