Nicosia – Cyprus: The Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus convened under the presidency of His Beatitude Archbishop Georgios of Cyprus. Two major decisions were highlighted in the session:
Synodical Liturgy for the Anniversary of the Turkish Invasion:
The Holy Synod has scheduled a synodical liturgy for Saturday, July 20, 2024, to commemorate the anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. The liturgy will be presided over by His Beatitude Archbishop Georgios at the Holy Church of Apostle Barnabas in Kokkinotrimithia, which serves as the temporary cathedral of the Holy Metropolis of Kyrenia. After the mass, there will be a plea for the liberation of Cyprus and a prayer for locating the missing persons from the conflict.
Inquiry to the Patriarchate of Alexandria
The Synod has requested clarification from the Patriarchate of Alexandria regarding the legal status of the recent “ordination” of a woman to the rank of deacon by the Metropolitan of Zimbabwe.
The Holy Archdiocese of Cyprus issued this announcement, reaffirming its dedication to the spiritual and national well-being of the faithful.
