Bishop Pachomius Elected New Metropolitan of Vidin

Sofia – Bulgaria: The Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church unanimously elected His Eminence Bishop Pachomius of Branica as the new Metropolitan of Vidin on February 6, 2025.
The election process began with a Divine Liturgy celebrated by Archimandrite John and Protodeacon Ivan Petkov. Following the service, Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil addressed the Synod members, urging them to prayerfully and conscientiously elect a canonical metropolitan for the Vidin diocese.
The metropolitans, in order of seniority, received ballots from the Patriarch and cast their votes in the altar of the Synodal Chapel. The two candidates for Metropolitan of Vidin had been elected on February 2nd in Vidin.
Based on the results, Patriarch Daniil, on behalf of the Holy Synod, proclaimed Bishop Pachomius of Branica as the canonically elected Metropolitan of Vidin. A celebratory hymn was sung.
In the reception hall, Patriarch Daniil addressed the newly elected Metropolitan, encouraging him to carry out his God-given work with zeal and dedication, assuring him of divine assistance. He invoked blessings through the prayers of the Theotokos, Saint Pachomius the Great, and all the saints.
Metropolitan Pachomius expressed his gratitude to the Patriarch and the Holy Synod for their trust and pledged to serve the Vidin Diocese zealously, dedicating himself to the work of salvation.
