Armenian Prelacy of Greece Elects New Prelate: Rev. Fr. Sahag Yemishian

Athens- Greece: The Diocesan National Representatives Assembly of the Armenian Prelacy of Greece convened for a special session on July 1st, 2024, to elect a new prelate. The position became vacant after the previous prelate, Archbishop Kegham Khatcherian, was elected to lead the Armenian Western Prelacy of the United States.

Following a message from His Holiness Catholicos Aram, the Assembly proceeded with the election. The results showed a clear vote for Very Reverend Father Sahag Yemishian. The official results were then communicated to His Holiness for ratification, which was promptly granted along with his blessings.
Fr. Yemishian, born in Yerevan in 1983, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He began his theological studies at the Armenian Theological Seminary in 1997. Prior to his election, he served as the Vicar General of the Eastern Prelacy of the Armenian Church in the USA and the Pastor of Sts. Vartanants Church in Ridgefield, New Jersey. Ordained as a celibate priest in 2006, he has risen through the ranks of the Armenian Church, receiving the titles of Vartabed (Doctor in Dogma) in 2010 and Supreme Vartabed in 2016. His academic credentials include a Master’s degree in Theology and Ministry from Boston College and ongoing doctoral studies in Administration and Leadership at Fordham University.
