Jerusalem-Holy Land: In a statement released on May 29,2024, Nurhan Archbishop Manukian, the Armenian Patriarch of Jerusalem, expressed deep concern and condemned the actions of the Armenian police following a reported incident on May 28, 2024.

The statement coincides with the 106th anniversary of the First Republic of Armenia and the heroic battle of Sardarapat. It highlights the historical role of the Armenian Church in times of struggle, where clergy stood alongside soldiers in defense of the nation.

Manukian criticizes the Armenian police for allegedly failing to ensure the safety of Karekin II, the Catholicos of All Armenians, during a procession to the Sardarapat Memorial. He describes their actions as “shameful,” “dishonorable,” and exhibiting a “hostile attitude” towards the Armenian Apostolic Church and its leader.

The statement concludes by expressing solidarity with Karekin II and urging the Armenian police to review their practices and prevent similar incidents in the future. It also reaffirms the Armenian Church’s unwavering commitment to the Armenian people, culture, and state.
