Belgrade-Serbia: The Eparchy of Raško-Prizren issued a statement in response to accusations regarding its alleged silence and inaction amid the ongoing hardships faced by the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija. The Church firmly rebuffed claims that it has betrayed its people by remaining silent on critical issues affecting the region, calling these accusations baseless and politically motivated.

The statement emphasized that the Serbian Orthodox Church has always remained devoted to its people, spiritually and historically, particularly in the challenging context of Kosovo and Metohija. It highlighted the Church’s long-standing tradition of avoiding involvement in everyday political disputes, focusing instead on preserving the unity of its believers, regardless of political orientation.

In the face of recent criticism, particularly from Mr. Momir Stojanović, President of the Serbian National Council, and echoed through media outlets, the Church made it clear that its stance on Kosovo and Metohija has been consistently in defense of Serbian sanctuaries and people. It strongly denied any allegations of negotiations or secret agreements with Pristina, dismissing such claims as dangerous and untruthful.

The Diocese further clarified its efforts to protect the rights of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, mentioning its active role in legal appeals, humanitarian work, and collaboration with international representatives. The Church reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining spiritual and humanitarian support for those affected, especially through initiatives such as the operation of soup kitchens that provide daily meals for thousands of vulnerable individuals.

In conclusion, the Diocese reiterated that it stands with its people, sharing in their suffering and ensuring the survival of the Serbian cultural and religious identity in Kosovo and Metohija. The Church called on the Serbian people to remain spiritually united and to trust in its leadership, which has been a steadfast protector of the nation’s faith and heritage for centuries.
