OCP News Service – 04/08/2024
Belgrade-Serbia: Serbian Patriarch Porfirije delivered a poignant sermon on August 3,2024, marking the somber anniversary of the “Storm” operation, a devastating military campaign that forced over 200,000 Serbs from their ancestral homes in Croatia in 1995.
In a service commemorating the victims and exiles of the conflict, Patriarch Porfirije condemned the violence perpetrated against the Serbian population. He called for justice and accountability for those responsible for the atrocities committed during the operation.
The Patriarch’s address emphasized the enduring pain and suffering experienced by the Serbian people due to the forced displacement. He urged the international community to remember the tragic events and to work towards reconciliation and lasting peace in the region.
Despite the passage of nearly three decades, the wounds inflicted by the “Storm” operation remain deep, and the Serbian Orthodox Church continues to provide support and spiritual guidance to those affected by the conflict.
