Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk Meets with Metropolitan Athanasius of Limassol in Cyprus

Moscow – Russia: Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, head of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, met with Metropolitan Athanasius of Limassol during his ongoing visit to Cyprus on May 19,2024.
The meeting, which took place was part of a working trip undertaken with the blessing of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow.
Metropolitan Anthony was accompanied by several officials from the Department for External Church Relations, including Archpriest Igor Yakimchuk, Archpriest Pavel Povalyaev, and Rev. Nikolai Vasin.
Metropolitan Athanasius of Limassol warmly welcomed the delegation, expressing his joy at receiving an envoy from the Patriarch of Moscow. He highlighted the recent consecration of the Russian St. Nicholas Church in Limassol as a significant event and expressed hope that the church would serve as a bridge between the Russian and Cypriot Orthodox Churches.
The two Metropolitans reportedly exchanged views on the current state of the Church in Cyprus and the broader Orthodox world.
As a token of their fraternal meeting, Metropolitan Athanasius presented Metropolitan Anthony with an icon of Saint John the Merciful, a native of Limassol and the city’s patron saint.
