Holy Synod of Ethiopia Elects Nine Bishop-Designates

Addis Ababa- Ethiopia: The Holy Synod of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church on July 05,2023 elected nine monks to be elevated to the office of the episcopate in a ballot after eighteen were chosen as candidates. The elected monks will serve in nine dioceses including seven in the Oromia Regional State and two in the South of the country. The ordination of bishop designates will take place on Sunday, July 16, 2023.

The nine bishop designates and their dioceses.
1. Abba Sahele Mariam Tola – for West Arsi
2. Abba Welde Gabriel Abebe – for East Wellega
3. Abba Tilahun Werku – for East Harerge
4. Abba Amde Michael Haile – for Horo-Gudru Wellega
5. Abba Haile Mariam Getachew – for Dire Dawa
6. Abba ZeTeklehaymanot Gebre – for West Wellega
7. Abba Estifanos Gebre – for Buno Bedelle
8. Abba Kinfe Gabriel Tekle Mariam – for Gedeo Amaro and Burji
9. Abba Sebehat Leab Haile Mariam – for Dawro and Konta
