Metropolitan Eugenios of Rethymno Elected Head of the Autonomous Church of Crete

Crete-Greece: Metropolitan Eugenios of Rethymno has been elected as the new Archbishop-head of the self-governing Church of Crete. The decision was made by the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate on 11/1/2022. He was elected as the former Archbishop Eirinaios of Crete was relieved from his duties by the Ecumenical Patriarch due to deteriorating health.
The Church of Crete is a self-governing that falls under the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. Its consist of the Archbishopric of Crete and 8 Metropolises.
