Jerusalem-Holy Land: His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of Serbian was awarded the Grand Cross, the highest honor of the Jerusalem Patriarchate, on April 2, 2025, by His Beatitude Theophilos III, Patriarch of Jerusalem and All Palestine. This rare and prestigious distinction, granted only to select individuals, recognizes Patriarch Porfirije’s outstanding contributions to Orthodox Christianity and his dedicated leadership within the Serbian Orthodox Church. The honor was conferred in a solemn ceremony at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, near the Tomb of Christ, following a historic liturgical service.

Earlier that day, Patriarch Porfirije and Patriarch Theophilos III officiated the Divine Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts at Golgotha, the site of Christ’s Crucifixion. This event was of immense historical significance, as it marked the first time in history that a head of an Orthodox Church, apart from the Jerusalem Patriarch himself, had served the liturgy at this sacred site. The service, held in one of Christianity’s holiest locations, was a moment of deep spiritual importance, bringing together clergy and faithful in prayer and reflection.

Following the liturgy, both patriarchs visited the Tomb of Christ, where Patriarch Theophilos III presented Patriarch Porfirije with the Grand Cross. In his address, he highlighted the Serbian Patriarch’s vital role in strengthening Orthodox unity, promoting theological scholarship, and preserving the spiritual heritage of the Serbian Orthodox Church. The award not only honors his leadership but also acknowledges his efforts in fostering relations between Orthodox churches and deepening the faith among believers.

By receiving this rare distinction, Patriarch Porfirije joins the ranks of distinguished figures who have been recognized for their extraordinary service to the Church. This moment stands as a testament to his enduring commitment to the Orthodox Christian world and the unity of the faith.
