Moscow- Russia: On August 27, 2024, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia met with a delegation of Coptic Orthodox monks at the Christ the Savior Cathedral in Moscow. The meeting was a testament to the strong spiritual bond between the two churches.
Patriarch Kirill emphasized the shared ascetic traditions and spiritual experiences of the Russian Orthodox and Coptic Orthodox Churches, despite their geographic differences. He highlighted the importance of spiritual achievement and the challenges faced by ascetics in both traditions.
The Patriarch also discussed the current state of relations between the two churches, noting the progress made in recent years, including the establishment of a dialogue commission, theological consultations, and educational exchanges. He expressed gratitude for the Coptic Orthodox Church’s support for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which is facing persecution and oppression.
The Coptic delegation, led by Metropolitan Paul of Tanta, expressed their appreciation for the warm hospitality and spiritual fellowship they experienced in Russia. They conveyed greetings from Patriarch Tawadros II of the Coptic Orthodox Church and shared their experiences and challenges in Egypt.
The meeting concluded with a visit to the Christ the Savior Cathedral and a prayer service. The visit serves as a reminder of the enduring spiritual connection between the Russian Orthodox and Coptic Orthodox Churches and their commitment to working together on matters of faith and international relations.
