Patriarch Kirill of Moscow Congratulates Masoud Pezeshkian on Election as President of Iran

Moscow – Russia: His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Masoud Pezeshkian on his election as President of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In a letter addressed to President-elect Pezeshkian, Patriarch Kirill expressed his sincere congratulations and highlighted the significance of the trust placed in Pezeshkian by the Iranian citizens. He emphasized the importance of the new president’s role in the socio-economic development, security, and stability of Iran.

“Fellow citizens have entrusted you with the future of the country, expecting the necessary steps for the further socio-economic development of society, strengthening security, and stability in the state,” wrote Patriarch Kirill. “Our peoples are united by the desire to preserve their historical spiritual and cultural traditions and commitment to enduring moral principles.”

Patriarch Kirill also underscored the long-standing dialogue between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Iranian Islamic community, which has been supported by the authorities of both nations. He noted that bilateral meetings have facilitated a convergence of positions on several critical issues in interreligious and intercultural cooperation.

“I would like to note that with the support of the authorities of the Republic, a dialogue between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Iranian Islamic community has been successfully conducted for many years,” stated Patriarch Kirill. “Bilateral meetings contribute to the convergence of positions on a number of topical issues in the field of interreligious and intercultural cooperation.”

Patriarch Kirill concluded his message with best wishes for Pezeshkian’s health and success in his new role, expressing hope for the continuation of fruitful cooperation between the two communities.

“Hoping for continued good cooperation, I wish you good health and blessed success in your public service,” he wrote.
