Syria-Damascus: Indian Minister of State for External Affairs His Excellency V. Muraleedharan was received by His Holiness Patriarch Ignatius Aphrem II of Antioch, the Primate of the Syrian Orthodox Church on 12th July 2023 at the headquarters of the Syriac Orthodox Church in Damascus. His Excellency was accompanied by the Charge d’Affaires of the Indian Embassy in Syria Vijay Vimal Pandey and a delegation from the ministry.

Patriarch Ignatius Aphrem mentioned the presence of the Syriac Orthodox Church in India and its importance in the Christian community in India. He also spoke about the important role of India in supporting Syria during the last decade. The minister thanked His Holiness for his warm welcome and spoke about the different programs offered by India in support of the Syrian people. The meeting was also attended by Mor Joseph Bali (Patriarchal Assistant), Mor Christophoros Markose (Patriarchal Secretary for the Affairs of the Church in India), and Mor Augeen Al Khoury Nemat (Patriarchal Secretary).
