Patriarch Daniil and PM Glavchev Unite to Uphold Bulgarian Orthodox Church’s Integrity

Sofia – Bulgaria: In a significant meeting held in Sofia, His Holiness Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil met with Acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev to discuss matters concerning the religious landscape of Bulgaria.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Glavchev reaffirmed the government’s position against the registration of the “Bulgarian Orthodox Old-Calendar Church.” He emphasized that this stance reflects the consistent view of the Council of Ministers, underscoring the primacy of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church as the traditional and legally recognized religion in the Republic of Bulgaria, in accordance with the Law on Religions.

“The role of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church has been historically justified over the centuries and is still relevant today,” stated Glavchev. He reassured Bulgarian citizens that there is no cause for concern about potential schism, highlighting the enduring unity of the Church.

The Prime Minister also mentioned his active engagement in monitoring the ongoing discussions in the National Assembly regarding proposed amendments to the Law on Religions.

His Holiness Patriarch Daniil expressed his gratitude to the government for maintaining a firm position on the matter, ensuring the integrity and traditions of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church are preserved.

The meeting was attended by prominent Church leaders, including His Eminence Metropolitan Gabriel of Lovchani and Bishop Gerasim of Melnik, the General Secretary of the Holy Synod, further highlighting the importance of the dialogue between the Church and the state.

This event underscores the close collaboration between the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and the government in safeguarding the country’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
