Patriarch Abune Matthias Welcomes Armenian Orthodox Delegation in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa- Ethiopia: His Holiness Abune Matthias received on Thursday, May 1, 2025, a delegation from the Armenian Orthodox Church, led by His Eminence Ashot Mnatskanian, Metropolitan of the Armenian Orthodox Church in Egypt, Ethiopia, and All Africa. Joining His Eminence was His Excellency Sahak Sargsyan, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union.

During the meeting, His Holiness Abune Matthias extended heartfelt greetings to His Holiness Karekin II and expressed well wishes to His Holiness, the Armenian Church, and Christians. He inquired about the security of Armenians, reflecting a deeply rooted concern for the well-being of the people.

Abune Matthias emphasized the historical ties that connect Ethiopia and Armenia, noting the rich heritage shared by the two countries. This connection was further highlighted by His Eminence Ashot Mnatskanian, who invited His Holiness to visit the Armenian Church, underscoring the significance of their relationship as Sister Churches.

His Excellency Sahak Sargsyan reflected on the long-standing bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Armenia, characterized by shared faith and unity. He reminisced about the historic assembly of the Oriental Churches that took place during the reign of His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie I, illustrating the depth of connection that transcends time.

As the meeting drew to a close, the leaders exchanged gifts, symbolizing their mutual respect and commitment to fostering closer ties between the Churches and countries.
